6. Consider the room size and viewing distance before buying a TV

50- vs. 65-inch TV: Similarities

First, let’s look at the similarities between these two common sizes. They mostly have the same advantages.

Compatibility

Both the 50-inch and 65-inch TVs work well with 4K or Ultra HD resolution because of their large screens. TVs this big nowadays can also accommodate HDR technology

As such, they usually need their content to be high definition. Both of them can provide an immersive viewing experience that users love. A lower resolution such as 1080 or Full HD is suitable for smaller TVs but may not be efficient for TVs with 50- or 65-inch screens.

More Features

Another similarity between 50- and 65-inch TVs is that they have more features compared to smaller-sized TVs.

They usually have more HDMI and USB ports for connection to other entertainment devices. They can also have add-ons, such as the option to connect sound via Bluetooth for a better audio experience.

Size Convenience

Both 50- and 65-inch TVs are large enough for a home theater experience, yet they’re still easier to fit inside your house compared to a 75- or 80-inch TV.

Still, the 50- and 65-inch TVs are in the larger spectrum, so they’re best placed in a room that generally fits a number of people at a time. TVs this size shouldn’t be placed where they get in the way.

It’s a good thing that 50-inch and 65-inch TVs also have wall-mounted versions. A wall mount is suitable for saving space and getting the TV out of the way. However, once you install it, you better have decided that it’s going to stay there for a while.

If you have enough space in the room and prefer a TV that you can lift and move around, you can get a 50- or 65-inch TV with a sturdy stand that goes well with it.

50- vs. 65-inch TV: Differences

Now that we covered the similarities between both TV sizes, let’s see how different they are. Granted, there aren’t many significant differences between them except for the screen size.

The obvious difference between the 50-inch and the 65-inch TVs is their size. The screen of the 65-inch TV is 30% larger than the 50-inch one (measured from one corner diagonally to the other corner).

So, the difference in screen size also makes their viewing distance different. For a 50-inch TV, it’s recommended to sit at a distance of 6.5-10.5 feet from the screen. And for a 65-inch TV, the recommended distance is further, between 8 and 13.5 feet away from the screen.

The point is that the bigger the screen, the more space you need to be able to watch your TV comfortably and avoid eye strain.

With that, choosing where to place your TV may depend on which size of TV you have. With the 50-inch TV, you can choose to place it in a room in your house that can accommodate fewer people. You may opt to put it in one of your larger bedrooms where you can watch from the recommended distance.

As for the 65-inch TV, living areas where you typically accommodate guests and more people can be the place where it goes.

Another difference may be that, though both of them can accommodate more HDMI and USB ports than smaller-sized TVs, the 65-inch TV can obviously have more ports than the 50-inch one. This may clinch the deal if you have plenty of devices to connect to your TV.

A Word of Caution

Both the 50- and 65-inch TVs have so much potential. But before getting either, and because these two sizes are in the large range, the most important thing to consider is the room you will be using them in.

Do you have enough space for a 50- or 65-inch TV? If so, go for the purchase. If not, think again. This is important because you want to have a comfortable viewing experience every time.

You wouldn’t want to pay a reasonable price for a good TV that doesn’t suit the room you’ll place it in. You still wouldn’t enjoy the viewing experience if you’ll only get eye strain. Likewise, if the room is too large, you may consider looking at bigger sizes.
