Does Apple TV Support Dolby Vision?

Apple TV does support Dolby Vision. Now, Apple TV isn’t necessarily referring to one product. Instead, there’s a selection between Apple TV 4K, Apple TV App, Apple TV+, and  Apple TV HD. The only one that doesn’t support Dolby Vision is Apple TV HD.

How to Set Up Dolby Vision on Your Apple TV 4K

Apple TV 4K is one way to turn your TV into a Smart TV by accessing several streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. You can also play from the Apply Arcade. To generate an HDR view, here’s how to access Dolby Vision on your Apple TV 4K.

Step 1: Check TV Settings

Before you start, you need to make sure that your Apple TV 4K is updated. You can do so by simply going to Settings>System>Software Updates>Update Software. After that’s complete, you’ll want to see if your TV can support Dolby Vision.

That being said, Dolby Vision should work with no issue if your TV display is set to 60 Hz. Otherwise, if your TV’s refresh rate is at 30 Hz, then you may need to change a few things in your settings.

Firstly, you’ll want to go to Settings>Video and Audio>Match Content. This should activate Match Dynamic Range. Another setting to check is Chroma which is also under the Video and Audio tab. Make sure it’s set to 4: 2: 2. That way, it’ll ensure better resolution and the highest quality picture color.

If you’re unsure what your TV’s refresh rate setup is, you can take a look at the user manual.

Step 2: Check HDMI Input and Cable

Typically, not all HDMI inputs support 4K or Dolby Vision content. In which case, you can check your TV guide to see which input will work best.

In other cases, you may have a connectivity issue from the HDMI cable. You can then go to Settings>Video and Audio>Check HDMI Connection.

If the issue persists, then you can find a cable that is specifically compatible with Dolby Vision features.
