Can I put AirPods in rice?

As an owner of AirPods, I’ve been frustrated on more than one occasion when my AirPods seem to have stopped working after I’ve gotten them wet. After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share how I solved this problem and some other solutions I discovered. So, can I put AirPods in rice? Let’s find out!

You can put AirPods in rice. However, rice might get into the speakers on the AirPods. Instead, it is recommended to just wipe them with a towel and then to leave them out to dry for at least a few hours.

Putting AirPods in rice is not recommended as rice may get stuck inside the AirPods.
The best option is to wipe down the AirPods with a towel and leave them out to dry for at least a few hours.
None of the current generations of AirPods are waterproof, but AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro are water-resistant.
If your AirPods get submerged in water, they are likely to become damaged.

Can I put AirPods in rice?

You can put AirPods in rice if they get wet. However, there is not really any advantage to putting AirPods in rice over just leaving them out to dry. If you put AirPods in rice, you risk allowing rice to get stuck inside the AirPods.

The best option really is to wipe down the AirPods using a towel and then to leave them out to dry for at least a few hours if they get wet.

What to do if my AirPods get wet?

If you drop your AirPods in water, wipe them with a towel, then leave them to completely dry before using them. You should wait for at least a few hours for them to dry because there may be water inside of them.

If you accidentally drop your AirPods in water, it is likely that they will no longer work. None of the generations of AirPods are currently waterproof.

With that being the case, due to the amount of water they will be exposed to, it is likely that the water will reach parts of the AirPods that it is not meant to and cause them to become damaged.

However, if your AirPods do not get fully submerged or they are only submerged for a very short time period, they might be ok.

In this case, it would be best to just wipe them down with a towel and to wait for them to completely dry before trying to use them.

If your AirPods get submerged in water and your AirPods do survive, it is still likely that the battery life will be much lower, the mic might not work anymore or it might be damaged and you may have issues connecting to your devices. It is also likely that there will be some cosmetic damage on the AirPods.

With that being said, the AirPods 3rd gen and the AirPods Pro are water-resistant so there is a small chance that you will get lucky. But, it is likely that you will need to replace them soon.

What will happen if my AirPods get wet?

If your AirPods get submerged in water, it is likely that they will not work anymore. If they do work, it would be likely that they will not work properly or may have a reduced battery life.

If your AirPods or AirPod Pros only have some water splash on them, they will probably be ok but you should still wipe them down and wait for them to dry.

AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro are splash resistant so they should be ok if you only splash them with water.
