Can someone else’s AirPods connect to my phone?

As a proud owner of Apple’s AirPods, I’m sure many of you have experienced the frustration of having someone else’s AirPods connect to your phone. I know I have! After some research and testing, I’m here to share with you how I solved this issue – as well as some other solutions I discovered along the way. So, if you’re wondering if someone else’s AirPods can connect to your phone, keep reading!

It is not possible for someone else’s AirPods to connect to your phone unless they are in pairing mode and you connect to them from your phone’s Bluetooth settings.

To connect to someone else’s AirPods, they must be in pairing mode.
Resetting AirPods will disconnect them from all previously paired devices.
To prevent AirPods from connecting to other devices, reset them by holding the power button until the light flashes orange and white.

Can someone else’s AirPods connect to my phone?

The only way for AirPods to be paired with a device is if they are in the charging case, the lid is open, the button is pressed on the case putting them into pairing mode and you click to connect to the AirPods on your phone’s Bluetooth settings.

If you do not click on the AirPods from your Bluetooth settings, it will not be possible for someone else’s AirPods to connect to your phone.

Is it possible to use someone else’s AirPods?

It is not possible to connect to someone else’s AirPods from your phone unless they are in pairing mode.

However, if someone steals AirPods and the case or they have access to another case, the AirPods can be reset.

When AirPods are reset, they lose their connection with all paired devices and can no longer be tracked through the “Find My” app.

Then, the AirPods will be like an unused set of AirPods and can be paired with any device and paired with a new iCloud account.

How to stop my AirPods from connecting to other people’s phones?

Your AirPods should not be connecting to other people’s phones that your AirPods have not been previously paired with.

If this is happening, it means that there is a fault with your AirPods or your AirPods were actually paired with that device in the past.

To unpair your AirPods from all devices and to stop previously paired devices from connecting to your AirPods, do the following:

  1. Put your AirPods in the case
  2. Open the lid
  3. Hold the power button until the light flashes orange then white.
  4. The AirPods will have forgotten all of their connections and can now be connected with new devices

Can someone use stolen AirPods?

It is possible for someone to use stolen AirPods.

All the person needs to do is to put the AirPods in a new case, or even the old case, and then to reset the AirPods by opening the lid and holding the button for 15 seconds.

This is why it is important to take precautions to make sure that people are not able to take your AirPods. The easiest option is to just put them in the case and to keep it with you whenever you are not using them.
