Can You Connect Your Phone to a Monitor?

As an owner of a smartphone and a monitor, I’ve often found myself asking the question, “Can I connect my phone to my monitor?” After much frustration and some research, I can now answer that question confidently with a “Yes”! In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you how I solved the problem of connecting my phone to my monitor, as well as some other solutions I discovered.

You can easily connect your phone to a computer monitor in a variety of ways and depending on the type of connections that your monitor supports. Some of these connections will require a computer while others will connect directly to the monitor.

If you want to find out more about these methods, this guide will walk you through all the steps that you need to take to pull them off. Let’s dive right in!

Method 1: Using USB Connection

Let’s start with one of the easiest methods to connect your phone to a monitor directly. For this method to work, you’ll need to have a relatively modern monitor with different types of port connections.

New monitors now come with various input connections, including a USB Type-C port that you can connect directly to an android smartphone.

In that case, all you need to do is connect your USB Type-C cable to your phone and then connect the other end to the USB-C port on the monitor.

The connection might take some time in order to establish, but after that, the screen will turn into a mirror image of your smartphone.

If your monitor has a gravity sensor, you can also tilt the screen sideways in order to display your phone’s screen in portrait mode! A good example of a monitor that can do this is the INNOCN Computer Monitor.

Method 2: Using an HDMI Adapter

If your monitor doesn’t have a USB Type-C port, this method is your best bet because it is pretty versatile and easy to execute, but you’ll need to buy a separate adapter to get it to work.

With that being said, you should keep in mind that your phone must be connected to the adapter at all times to work. Here’s what you need to do:

First, you’ll need to buy a good quality HDMI adapter, such as the Manifun USB-C to HDMI Adapter, CASOLU USB C/Type C to HDMI Adapter, or any other similar adapters.

You can also use USB-C to HDMI cable connections like the CableCreation USB-C/Thunderbolt to HDMI Cables. However, some monitors may not function properly with them because they lack the adapter necessary to adjust the signal.

Simply plug the adapter’s USB-C end into your phone and connect the adapter to the monitor using a regular HDMI cable connection (male to male). You should also plug the adapter into the wall using a standard power brick connection.

Method 3: Using USB Casting

For this method, you should be able to cast your phone’s screen directly on your computer through the monitor.

The method is pretty easy and can come in handy while you’re working on your computer or shooting tutorial videos. For this method, you’ll need a computer with Windows 10 and a wireless internet connection.

First, make sure that you connect the two devices to the same WiFi network. After that, open the Settings menu on your computer and choose System, then select “Project into this PC” from the sidebar.

If the wireless display is not enabled on your device, you can easily add it by clicking the “Optional Features”, then choosing “Add a feature”. Scroll down or search for “Wireless Display”, then tap install.

Once it’s installed, head back to the “Project into this PC” window and change “Always off” to “Available Everywhere”, then click on “Launch the connect app to project to this PC”.

On your phone, use the standard screen-sharing features to connect as you normally do with smart TVs. depending on your phone brand and model, the feature might also be called Screen Mirroring, SmartShare, Screencasting, etc

After enabling the feature, select your computer from the list of available devices, and your phone will be connected to the monitor.

Method 4: Using Chromecast

Lastly, you can connect your phone to a monitor using the Chromecast dongle, which is similar to the previous method, except you won’t need a functional computer for it. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Plug the Chromecast into your monitor using the HDMI port, and connect the Chromecast to a power source if it needs one.
  2. Turn on the monitor and switch to the HDMI source connected
  3. On your smartphone, open the Google Home app
  4. Open the menu by tapping the left hand navigation
  5. Choose Cast screen/audio
  6. Select your Chromecast device
