You can play songs from Alexa on your phone, as some phones and tablets have Alexa integrated into them.

You can also control the music on your phone using Alexa and an Amazon Echo speaker. Alexa will look through your music library and connect to streaming services for playable music to entertain you.

How To Play Songs From Alexa on My Phone?

You can play songs from Alexa on your phone by setting up a streaming service and connecting your Amazon Echo to your phone. If you have an Alexa-enabled device, you won’t need to use an Amazon Echo.

You can set up Alexa on the phone or tablet and then command her to play music through that device’s speaker. You can also use an alternative Bluetooth speaker if you pair it to your device.

Using an Android Phone

If you have an Android device, the first thing you’ll need to do is download the Alexa app. Once downloaded,  the app will ask that you sign into an Amazon account.

If you’re already a Prime Music member, that’s great because it’ll be easy to play your music. If not, you’ll have to sign up for it or link to a different streaming service.

You can link your streaming service by selecting “More” on the bottom of your screen and then “Settings” and “Music & Podcasts.”

You can then ask Alexa to play songs through your phone’s speaker, or you can connect your phone to an alternative Bluetooth speaker afterwards.

Once you’re set up and Alexa is connected to your streaming service, you can command her to play music. First, you call her name to wake her, and then you tell her what to play.

She responds by analyzing your music listening habits and finding something you’ll likely enjoy.

Alternatively, she can search for a specific song you request or a playlist you have set up through your streaming provider.

Using an Alexa-Enabled Device

If you have an Amazon tablet, you can easily play music because it likely already has the Alexa app. You’ll open the app and sign in to your Amazon account if necessary.

Once it connects to your Amazon Music account, you can request Alexa to play songs for you.

Playing Your Own Music Not Associated With a Streaming Service

If you want to play downloaded music that’s on your computer or phone, you’ll need to use the MyMedia or Plex service to get Alexa to play the sounds. The catch with this method is that you’ll have to ask Alexa to ask Plex or MyMedia to play the songs.

For example, you’ll say, “Alexa, ask My Media to play XYZ song.” However, those two services can cost you between $5 and $17.

You will have to download the MyMedia app and then install it. You may also need to add a skill so that Alexa can understand how to access the files in the MyMedia application. To add a skill, you’ll need to go visit Alexa’s page

Using an Echo to Play Music From Your Phone

Using Apple Music Instead of Amazon

You may want to use Apple music instead of Amazon Music to listen to great tunes. Fortunately, you can do that using a few simple steps.

First, visit the Alexa app and choose “More” from the home screen. It’s located on the bottom right side.

Once you do that, you’ll need to select “Settings” and then “Music & Podcasts.” Select the “Link New Service” and then select “Apple Music.” You can then enable your device to use Apple Music by choosing the “Enable To Use” button.

If you’d like to set Apple Music as your default streaming service instead of Amazon, you can do that using the app as well.

Return to the “Music & Podcasts” menu and then go to “Default Services.” You’ll have the option to choose various default services for different Alexa commands. You should be able to listen to your music using Alexa at that point.

Can Alexa Play Music From My Phone Without Wi-Fi?

Alexa generally needs an internet connection to work correctly. Thus, you need Wi-Fi most of the time. You can use alternative methods to play music on your Echo device, but you may lose the voice command functionality.

You could give Alexa the internet connection she needs by connecting to another device via mobile hotspot. That way, you don’t have to use Wi-Fi and can use your device’s data instead.

The alternative is to use your Echo only as a Bluetooth speaker and forgo using Alexa’s voice commands.

To connect to Alexa with a hotspot-enabled device, you need to first enable the hotspot on your phone. That process may be as simple as going to “Settings,” “Network & Internet (Android) or “Settings,” then ” Cellular,” and then “Personal Hotspot.”

Once you activate the hotspot on the phone, open the Alexa app. Choose “Echo & Alexa,” select the device you want to use, and then select “Change Wif-Network.”

You’ll see the name of the hotspot device. Choose that, and then you’ll have all of Alexa’s functionality without using a Wi-Fi connection.

Using Bluetooth

You can also choose to use your Echo as a speaker and not use Alexa’s voice command services. For an iPhone, you must go to “Settings,” “Bluetooth,” “Turn on Bluetooth,” and then “Other Devices.”

If you have an Android, you’ll go to “Settings,” ” Connections,” “Bluetooth,” and then “Turn on Bluetooth.

You can say “Alexa turn Bluetooth on” or “Alexa, pair” to put your speaker into pairing mode. The Alexa device will show up on your phone’s screen as a pairable item.

Select it to confirm the pairing process. Once it pairs with your phone, you can play your music manually and have it come from your Echo’s speaker.
