Do Apple Watches Come Charged?

As an Apple Watch owner, I know the frustration of trying to figure out if your new device is charged or not. I recently went through the process of researching and testing to answer the question, ‘Do Apple Watches Come Charged?’ In this blog post, I’ll share my experience and the solutions I discovered to help other Apple Watch owners.

Technically, all Apple watches come partially charged straight out of the box. However, even if the battery comes dead, there’s usually nothing to worry about.

Tips
Charge your Apple Watch before using it even if the battery is partially charged.
Monitor the battery performance in the first few weeks for any defects.
For Series 7, fully charge the watch for 75 minutes, while for older models, it can take up to 120 minutes.
Battery life varies depending on the model and enabled features and usage frequency.

Do Apple Watches Come Pre-Charged?

Apple Watches use lithium ion technology in their batteries. What’s unique about these batteries is that they charge relatively fast and long for a long time despite being relatively small in size.

However, one of the important things about these batteries’ maintenance is that you shouldn’t let them drain all the way to zero.

As a result, while manufacturing the watches, Apple pre-charges the batteries all the way to 100%. However, it takes a long time before apple watches reach the market, and therefore, they start draining their charge slowly over time.

As a result, most Apple watches will reach customers partially charged, although the exact percentage of charge left in the watch will vary from one watch to another.

What Should I Do If My Apple Watch Battery Comes Dead?

As previously established, Apple watches typically come partially charged out of the box. However, in some rare cases, you may stumble across an Apple Watch with dead batteries.

If your Apple Watch’s battery comes dead out of the box, there’s usually nothing to worry about, as it can happen sometimes without causing any long-term impacts on your watch’s battery life.

As previously mentioned, the best thing to do when you first get your Apple watch, whether it’s partially charged or dead, is to charge it fully before using it.

However, to make sure that the battery doesn’t have any major defects that would impact the performance of the watch, it’s best that you monitor the battery performance for the first few days.

If the watch drains faster than it should or gets very hot to touch while charging, you should take it immediately to the nearest Apple Service Center.

Should I Charge My New Apple Watch Before Using It?

Technically, there aren’t any official guidelines that require you to charge your Apple Watch batteries before using them.

In fact, some people even reported that their Apple Watches have worked perfectly normal for several years, despite not charging them fully when they first used them.

For that reason, it’s only necessary to charge the watch before using it if the low battery indicator is displayed on the watch or the battery is dead.

With that being said, there’s nothing wrong with charging your Apple Watch’s battery all the way before using it.

How to Charge My Apple Watch?

In order to charge your Apple for the first time, you’ll need to do the following:

  1. Connect the magnetic USB-C cable that comes with the Apple Watch to any USB power adapter, preferably Apple’s USB brick.
  2. Put the back of the Apple Watch’s crown on the magnetic dock and make sure that it aligns with the watch and snaps in place.
  3. Plug the USB adapter into any power outlet with proper voltage.
  4. Check the watch face to confirm that the battery is charging. The red “low battery” icon should then change to green, which indicates that the battery is charging.

How Long Does It Take an Apple Watch to Charge Fully?

The time needed to fully charge an Apple Watch will vary depending on the amount of charge left when you started charging it.

Yet, for a Series 7 Apple watch that is fully drained, it should take around 75 minutes to charge all the way to 100%. However, older models may take up to 120 minutes.

How Long Does an Apple Watch Last on a Full Charge?

The battery life of a fully charged Apple Watch will depend mainly on the model of the watch model and the features enabled as well as how frequently you use it.

However, it should take a Series 7 Apple Watch a maximum of 18 hours to fully drain from 100% to 0% in casual use, and around 6 hours if you enable demanding features.

Final Thoughts

This wraps it up for today’s guide that walks you through everything you need to know about Apple Watch’s battery when you first buy them.

As you can see, the lithium ion batteries used in these watches are usually fully charged when they’re manufactured and usually arrive to customers partially charged. Ideally, you should charge the battery all the way before you use it.

However, if the battery comes dead, it’s usually alright and you only need to monitor the watch’s battery for a few weeks and contact support if you notice that the battery drains quickly or overheats excessively.
