As an AirPods user, I was curious to find out if the Find My iPhone feature could locate my AirPods case. I had heard mixed reviews from friends and family and wanted to find out for myself. After doing a bit of research and testing, I’m here to share my experience with the Find My iPhone feature and the solutions I discovered. Does Find My iPhone really track the AirPods case or not? Find my iPhone only tracks the AirPods Pro 2 case or newer. Find my iPhone also tracks the AirPods themselves. However, if the AirPods are in the case, they will not be updating their location because they turn off when they are in the case.

Does Find My iPhone track the AirPods case?
Find my iPhone only tracks the AirPods Pro 2 case or newer. Find my iPhone also tracks the AirPods themselves. The AirPods Pro 2 case and newer features speakers and the case can play sounds via find my iPhone.
(If you have an old generation AirPods case) Unfortunately, if you lose your case and the AirPods are in the case, it will not actually be updating its position to find my iPhone because the AirPods get turned off when they are in the case so cannot update their location. With that being said, you will still be able to see their last known location on find my iPhone.

How do I Find My lost AirPod case?
If your AirPods are in the case, you should be able to see the last known location on find my iPhone. However, the location will not be getting updated because the AirPods will be turned off.
Below are options you have when finding the AirPods case.
See if the AirPods are connected to Bluetooth
If your AirPods are in or near the case and are connected to Bluetooth, it will be the case that your AirPods and the case are somewhere nearby and you will just have to keep searching around until you find them.
Use the Wunderfind app
If you are able to connect to the AirPods via Bluetooth and the case is near the AirPods, you can also use the Wunderfind app which allows you to see the strength of the connection you have with the AirPods.
By using the app, you can walk around and see if the strength of the connection gets weaker or smaller. By walking in the direction that makes the connection stronger, you will be getting nearer to the AirPods.
Go to locations where you might have used the case
If you go back to locations where you last used the case and AirPods, you might find that the AirPods connect to the phone’s Bluetooth.
If this happens, you will know that the AirPods are somewhere nearby and hopefully the case will be too.
Try to remember where you last used the AirPods
It would help to try to remind yourself of where you last used the case.
If you know that you last used the case in a certain room, you can search the room by starting in a certain location in the room and then working your way around the room.
It would help to look underneath things such as chairs, cushions, mattresses, and beds since the case might have fallen underneath.
Consider where you normally use the case
It would also help to consider where you most frequently use the case since that is the most likely location, if you cannot remember where you last used it.

Can AirPods work without the case?
When you do not have the case, AirPods can be used with devices that they have previously been connected with.
However, the case is needed for when you need to charge the AirPods, connect them to new devices or to reset the AirPods.
For the most part, the best option is to usually keep the AirPods case with you because you can just put the AirPods in there when you are not using them.
