How to adjust AirPods volume when connected to tv

Using Bluetooth audio devices such as AirPods is increasingly becoming a popular method to watch TV.

After all, it allows for more privacy with what you watch, and it also helps keep you from disturbing your family, friends, and/or neighbors, especially if it is late at night when you are watching.

There are some questions, however, as to how AirPods can be used with your Bluetooth-enabled TVs, including whether the volume of the TV can be controlled with AirPods, and if so, how.

How to adjust AirPods volume when connected to a TV

To adjust the AirPods volume when connected to a TV, you must adjust the volume directly on the TV or by using the remote that comes with the TV. You usually won’t be able to do it by using Siri.

When it comes to AirPods, how you control the volume will ultimately depend on the device. On an iPhone, for example, you can control the volume of the AirPods by adjusting the volume on your phone.

When it comes to a TV, adjusting the volume simply comes down to adjusting the volume as you would adjust it normally.

As you may have noticed, the AirPods themselves do not have a physical means by which to adjust the volume, such as a slider dial, buttons, touchscreen, or any other such methods.

Can you connect to your television’s soundbar?

While soundbars have Bluetooth capabilities and can connect to a Bluetooth-enabled TV, you cannot connect your AirPods to your TV’s soundboard. The soundboard’s Bluetooth capabilities allow it to play volume from a device, but it cannot actually play volume to a device.

Why won’t my AirPods adjust volume when connected to my TV?

Your AirPods may be having trouble adjusting your TV’s volume for multiple reasons. Sometimes it is an issue with your television, while other times it’s the AirPods. One of the most common issues with AirPods not being able to adjust volume is due to the AirPods being uncharged.

Make sure that you charge your AirPods on a regular basis, as they cannot be used while they are charging due to needing to be put into the charging case.

If the charging case shows a blank light, the AirPods (and/or the charging case) is out of power, while an amber light indicates that it needs to be charged. They will be fully charged once the light on the case turns green.

There may also simply be compatibility issues that ensure your television and AirPods cannot connect with one another. Not all televisions with Bluetooth capability are compatible with AirPods.

For example, the Sony Bravia TV, despite having Bluetooth, do not have the capability to output audio to a Bluetooth device. The Bluetooth function is intended for things like Bluetooth remotes.

Your AirPods may also have unusual issues preventing them from functioning properly. For example, if your AirPods are damaged in any way, that may prevent its Bluetooth feature from functioning.

If this is the case, you may have to contact Apple, who will either repair or replace them if they are under warranty. If the AirPods are out of warranty, you will have to replace one or both of them depending on if both were damaged.

Another problem arises when it comes to having a soundbar and AirPods connected to your television. Both devices can be connected to a smart TV, but unfortunately, they cannot be connected simultaneously.

This is in spite of the fact that a pair of wired headphones, headsets, or earbuds can be connected to the television while the soundbar is still connected.

Do mind, however, that not all TVs will allow for multiple outputs, so don’t take this as gospel.

Can multiple AirPods be used at the same time with my TV?

Watching television together is great, but when you want to watch without making much noise, you would inevitably want everyone to be able to listen in.

Unfortunately, much like how your AirPods cannot be connected at the same time as a Bluetooth soundbar, so too can’t a second set of AirPods connect simultaneously.
