Apple Music Sorting

When you first start using the Apple Music app, your library is empty. Then, as you add more titles to your catalog, the app will create playlists.

Depending on your device’s default settings, the playlists can have different sorting options. The first and most common is to classify by name. All the titles in your music library will go in ascending alphabetical order.

Still, there are many other categorizing functions. Some of the most popular include sorting by:

  • Date added
  • Artist name
  • Release date
  • Recently played

In addition, your iPhone may also create playlists based on how frequently you listen to a track.

When dealing with any of these playlists, you don’t have control over the order. Your device will automatically place the files based on their metadata.

It’s important to note that you need an active Apple Music account to have access to these features.

For the Library method, you can follow these steps.

  1. Launch the Apple Music app on your device.
  2. Go to the Library tab.
  3. Find the Playlists section.
  4. Click on the New Playlist option.
  5. Select the Add button.
  6. Navigate to and select any songs you want on the playlist.

For the Music File method, you can follow these steps.

  1. Launch the Apple Music App on your device.

  2. Play a song that you want to add to your playlist.
  3. Select the three horizontal dots to open the advanced menu.
  4. Click on the Add to a Playlist option.
  5. Tap on the New Playlist function.

No matter which method you choose, they all give you the same results. As soon as you create a playlist, the app will give you the option to name it.

You can leave the folder untitled, but personalizing will make it easier to use later on. There are also customization options for the cover art of the playlist.

Once you’re done with this process, you should find the playlist in your music library. Then you can play, edit, and even share your new playlist.

If you’re on the Apple Music Voice Plan, you may not be able to create new playlists. For more information, you can visit this support article.

Deleting a Playlist

After a few minutes of fidgeting with a playlist, it’s easy to get the tracks mixed up. When this happens, sometimes, it’s faster to delete and recreate it rather than reorganize it.

If that’s the case, follow these steps to remove a playlist:

  1. Launch the Apple Music app on your device.
  2. Navigate to the Library tab.
  3. Locate and open the playlist you wish to delete.
  4. Tap and hold the file.
  5. Select the three horizontal dots.
  6. Choose the Delete option.

Then, you get a fresh start at creating your perfect musical soundtrack.
