Amazon Alexa devices are extremely versatile. Amazon has put Alexa in just about everything. The Echo Dot, Echo Show, standard Echo, and more are all available to consumers.

With Alexa, you can easily request information, ask for songs to play, get recipes, and more.

When it comes to an Alexa device, though, just how do you get it into pairing mode? What is the easiest approach to achieve this goal?

Alexa devices are best-known for their Alexa voice assistant features. When you do not have wifi though, you may still want to make use of your Alexa device.

You can do this via the Bluetooth functionality that comes with all Alexa devices. This will allow you to play music or audio from your phone.  

To use your Alexa device as a Bluetooth speaker without any wifi and pair it with a device, do the following.

You start by enabling the wifi hotspot on your smartphone. Then, plug in your Alexa device and get it into pairing mode. You do this by holding down the action button to get the orange light.

Pair the Alexa device with your phone’s Bluetooth and turn off the hotspot. This will then allow the speaker to work as a Bluetooth speaker, having the pairing in place with your phone to play whatever you need.  

How to Put An Echo Dot into Pairing Mode?

To put an Echo Dot into pairing mode, the easiest thing to do is to start on the Amazon Alexa app.

Go into the application on your smartphone and go into settings and then click on set-up new device. You will be able to select the Echo Dot as the type of device you are setting up.

From here plug in the Echo Dot for the first time and let it start to activate. You will see the ring color start, with the blue light shining through.

This will turn orange. Once it is in orange, you will be in pairing mode and you will be set to go.  

Why Won’t My Echo Dot Go Into Pairing Mode?

The most likely reason your Echo Dot is not going into pairing mode is that it already has been paired. If you have an Echo Dot which has pairing already, it will simply try to reconnect to the existing network it knew before.

The best way to erase the Alexa and start it fresh is to unplug it, plug it back in, and then set it up as a new device on your Alexa app.

If the Alexa app has the device already, you will need to forget to remove the pairing to start the process over.
