As an AirPods Pro owner, I was getting frustrated with the lack of control I had over the volume level. After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share how I solved the problem and some other solutions I discovered. In this blog post, I’m going to explain how to set a volume limit on AirPods Pro.

How to set a volume limit on AirPods Pro or regular AirPods?
In order to set a volume limit on your AirPods Pro or regular AirPods, it will be necessary for you to set a volume limit on the device you are using.
You can’t directly limit the volume of just the AirPods. But, this is not such an issue for most people.
Setting a volume limit on mac
There is no internal way to limit the volume on your Mac. However, someone did create an app that will limit the volume for you. You can even limit the volume on just your AirPods. You can find it here.
Alternatively, you will just have to manually press the volume keys on your keyboard to keep the volume down at an acceptable level.
Setting a volume limit on iPhone or iPad
On your iPhone or iPad, go to settings -> music -> volume limit. You should see a slider that controls the maximum volume that you can then use to adjust how loud your AirPods will go.
Setting a volume limit on Android
To control the volume on your Android device, go to settings -> sound and volume. You should then be able to adjust the max volumes for various use cases.

How to remove airpods volume limit
It might not actually be the case that your AirPods have a volume limit.
Rather, it might be the case that something else is causing your AirPods to be quiet at max volume. I have written here and here why your AirPods might be quiet at max volume.
To see if your AirPods have a volume limit, go through the steps mentioned above to set a volume limit and check that there is not actually any limits that have been set.

How to adjust the volume on AirPods
To adjust the volume on your AirPods, you can either change the volume on your device by changing the volume the regular way you would change the volume on your device or you can tell Siri to change the volume.
If your AirPods do not change volume when you adjust the volume on your device, it could be the case that you need to reconnect your AirPods to your device.
To do this, Forget your AirPods from your device, put your AirPods in the case, open the lid, hold the power button then reconnect them to your device.
If that does not work, try resetting your AirPods then reconnecting them to your device by putting your AirPods in the case, holding the lid for 15 seconds until the orange light appears on the case.
Then you can reconnect your AirPods to your devices as mentioned above.
