How to set up Toshiba TV with Alexa?

I’m here to share my experience with setting up my Toshiba TV with Alexa. After a lot of research, trial and error, and troubleshooting, I was able to get my Toshiba TV connected with Alexa successfully. In this post, I’ll be outlining the steps I took and the troubleshooting tips I learned along the way to help make your setup process as smooth as possible.

You can set up Toshiba TV with Alexa as long as your television is a Smart TV, you have Alexa device, and you have downloaded the Alexa app on your smartphone.

Setting up Toshiba TV with Alexa requires having the Toshiba Smart Home app and the Alexa app.
Make sure that the television and Alexa are all connected to the same network before beginning the connection process.
Go to the Toshiba Smart Home app, find the pairing code, and write it down.
Open your Alexa app and locate the Toshiba Smart Home app option.
Input the Skills Pairing code when prompted and click on Approve Enabling The Skills to confirm the connection.
Toshiba announced that most of their Full HD and UGD Smart TVs would have the ability to connect to Alexa devices from 2018 onwards.
For older Toshiba TVs, an Amazon Firestick can be connected to Alexa, and used as a way to make your non-smart Toshiba television a bit smarter.

How to set up Toshiba TV with Alexa?

Setting up your Toshiba TV with your Alexa is done through the Toshiba Smart Home app and the Alexa app.

However, before you begin the set-up process, make sure that the television and Alexa are all connected to the same network. This is required to properly connect the two devices.

Steps to connect Toshiba TV with Alexa.

  1. Open and log into your Toshiba Smart Home app.
  2. Open the settings, and then click on Alexa Skills setup.
  3. Find the pairing code and write it down. You will need this code to connect the two devices.
  4. Open your Alexa app and log into your account.
  5. Locate the Toshiba Smart Home app option. Click on the link to enable it.
  6. The Account Linking Page will appear. Input the Skills Pairing code when prompted.
  7. Click on Approve Enabling The Skills to confirm the connection.

The television and Alexa are now connected, and you can use Alexa to control your smart TV. 

Why won’t my Toshiba Smart TV connect to Alexa?

There are several reasons as to why your Toshiba TV won’t connect to Alexa, and some are easier to correct than others.

One of the most common issues is that the skills are not enabled and authenticated through the Toshiba Smart Home app and the Alexa app.

The device you want to connect needs to be supported by Toshiba Smart Home Skills. Make sure that both the Toshiba Smart TV and Alexa are on the same Wi-Fi network. This is required in order to connect the two. 

What is Toshiba Smart Home app?

The Toshiba Smart Home app gives your smartphone or tablet the ability to control your television.

It is available for Android and iOS devices, and is required to properly connect your television to Alexa. Before you can begin the connection process, you will first need to ensure you have this app downloaded to your phone.

Is Toshiba TV compatible with Alexa?

In 2018, Toshiba announced that most of their Full HD and UGD Smart TVs would have the ability to connect to Alexa devices from here on out.

Unfortunately, consumers with Toshiba TVs older than 2018 won’t have this integrated feature. But that doesn’t mean you still cannot use Alexa in some way with your older Toshiba television.

An Amazon Firestick, for example, can be connected to Alexa, and then used as a way to make your non-smart Toshiba television a bit smarter.

You will have the ability to control some aspects of the Firestick through Alexa. With that said, however, you are extremely limited by what you are able to do with a television that isn’t a Smart TV.
