How to turn off touch on AirPods or AirPods Pro

As an AirPods and AirPods Pro owner, I know how frustrating it can be when you accidentally activate the touch features that control volume and voice commands. To help other AirPods and AirPods Pro users avoid this problem, I’ve done some research and testing to figure out how to turn off touch on AirPods and AirPods Pro. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned and the different solutions I’ve discovered.

It is not possible to turn off the touch sensitivity on AirPods 1 or 2. It is not possible to turn off the squeeze functionality on AirPods 3 or AirPods Pro. You can turn off automatic ear detection on iPhone and iPad by going “Settings” -> “Bluetooth” -> “i” and you can turn it off from there.

Can you turn touch off on AirPods Pro?

It is not possible to turn the touch sensitivity off on AirPods Pro. Also, the AirPods Pro are not meant to work by being touched.

Rather, you are meant to squeeze on them. If your AirPods Pro register presses even when you touch them, it would mean that they are faulty.

However, it is possible to turn off the automatic ear detection on AirPods Pro. To turn off automatic ear detection on AirPods Pro, go “Settings” -> “Bluetooth” -> click the “i” then you can turn it off from there.

Can you turn off touch on AirPods?

It is not possible to turn off touch on AirPods 1 or 2.

It is also not possible to turn off the squeeze functionality on AirPods 3. Like AirPods Pro, AirPods 3 are meant to be squeezed and not touched.

If they are changing when you touch them, it could be the case that they are faulty.

If you are having issues with the fit of your AirPods and finding that you need to readjust them, there are things you can do to stop that from happening.

First, you can change the size of the ear tips if you are using AirPods Pro.

Second, you can get silicon covers for your regular AirPods.

Third, you can get ear hooks for your AirPods that attach to your AirPods and hook around your ears giving a more secure fit.

Can you turn off automatic ear detection on AirPods?

It is possible to turn off the automatic ear detection when you take the AirPods out, if you are using iPhone or iPad.

To do this, do the following:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Go to “Bluetooth”
  3. Click the “i” next to your AirPods
  4. From there you will have the option to turn off Automatic ear detection
