iPhone Screen Is Black After Dropping (Causes and Fixes)

iPhones aren’t impervious to screen problems. But, before you blame it on a broken screen, here’s why an iPhone screen turns black and its possible solution:

Drained Battery

Checking if the battery is drained and just needs to be charged can be a possible solution. Plug in your iPhone to a power source until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

If the device vibrates as if it’s charging, but the screen stays black, it’s time to reach out to a repair professional

Faulty Battery

If you have a faulty battery, a black screen is one of the warning signs. To check your battery capacity, navigate to Settings, select Battery, and tap Battery Health. If your battery is normal, you’ll see a message on the screen that says, “Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance.”

If your battery’s capacity is unusually low, you might encounter unexpected shutdowns. In this case, you’ll have a message that says your battery is unable to deliver the necessary peak power.

Furthermore, the best solution you can do is to schedule an appointment with Apple Support. If your device is covered by AppleCare, you can replace your battery without paying an additional cost.

Application Incompatibility

If the iPhone software is no longer compatible with an app, it could lead to a malfunctioning screen. To fix it, you can press and hold the app, then click the remove option; once prompted, select Delete App

Moreover, you can also update your device’s software. If you miss an update, it might cause several issues. To verify that your iPhone’s software is up to date, go to your Settings, and choose Software Update in the General menu.

If your software is outdated, a new software update will be available. Enter your passcode when prompted, then tap Install Now. It’s better if you turn on automatic updates on your device so you won’t miss out on future updates.

Overheating

Dropping an iPhone isn’t the only major reason why the screen turns black.

Overheating can also cause the screen to malfunction. If the temperature becomes too hot to touch, the possible fix that you can do is leave the device to cool down

Hardware Issue

How you handle your iPhone can affect its functionality. If the device has been dropped badly, it might end up with a hardware problem, like a damaged screen.

In this case, DIY could lead to further damage, especially if you don’t know your way around phone repairs. Your best resort is taking the device to the Apple Store.

What Are Other Causes and Fixes of Black Screen?

If you want to try other solutions before calling it a day, here are other easy fixes:

Put iPhone in Recovery Mode

One of the heavy-duty fixes you try is putting your iPhone in recovery mode. Connect your iPhone to your computer. After plugging it in, open iTunes on the computer.

Press and release the Volume up and Volume down on your phone. Then, press the Power button for at least 10 seconds until the Recovery Mode appears on the screen.

Once the device is in Recovery Mode, you can update the iOS and perform a backup.

Force Restart Your iPhone

Sometimes, simply restarting the device can resolve the issue. Press and hold the Power button together with the Volume Up button until a slider appears on the screen. Slide the power icon to power off.

Wait for a few minutes before you turn your device back on. Then, hold down the Power button and Volume Up button until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

Factory Reset Your iPhone

The last resort that you can try is resetting your device. Make sure to use backup storage like iCloud to back up your data, as resetting might delete apps and erase customized Settings.

Then, go to Settings and select Reset from the General menu. Once you click Erase All Content And Settings, enter the password or PIN code.
