Is it bad to have AirPods in all day?

Depending on the volume level you choose, it is ideal to only listen to devices with AirPods at 60% maximum volume, for up to a total of 60 minutes a day.

Any more than 60 minutes a day can lead to an increased risk of ear problems from wax buildup to infections and potentially permanent damage, such as hearing loss.

Can AirPods and earbuds affect the brain?

The short answer is no. Most AirPods and earbuds cannot directly harm the brain.

However, if an individual uses AirPods too much or too loudly, it can cause direct damage to the nerves in the ear. If the nerves in the ear become affected, this can lead to issues in the brain. 

Do AirPods cause tinnitus?

How can I minimize my risk while wearing AirPods?

Whenever you opt to wear your AirPods, there are a few steps you can take to minimize and mitigate risk. Some of the easiest ways to minimize the risk of damaging your hearing, your ears, or your brain while wearing AirPods include:

  • Always keep your maximum volume limit set to 60%
  • Limiting yourself to the amount of time you keep your AirPods on any given day. For example, the maximum recommended time to keep AirPods on a daily basis is 60 minutes at 60% max volume for optimal health. If you choose to listen to your AirPods for longer and at a higher volume, you run the risk of causing permanent hearing loss or damage to the nerves of the ear.
  • Take breaks while listening with your AirPods in. Give your ears time to breathe and prevent the buildup of wax.
  • Clean your AirPods regularly to avoid transferring bacteria and potential pathogens directly into your ear, especially if you use your AirPods each day and travel to and from work in public spaces.
  • Avoid blasting music or other forms of audio, even if you are in the moment or zone. Doing so can cause permanent hearing loss and/or damage to the ear nerves. 

Are AirPods better for you than headphones?

Both AirPods and headphones can be used safely and regularly by following proper guidelines when it comes to setting time limits and avoiding maximum volume at all times.
