LG TV Freezing (Causes and How to Fix)

As an LG TV owner, I know the frustration of having my TV freeze up in the middle of a show or movie. After my own experience, I decided to do some research and testing to discover what was causing the freezing, and how to fix it. I’m now here to share what I’ve learned with you, so that you can hopefully avoid and resolve the issue.

A weak signal on your LG TV may be causing the freezing. If you have connectivity troubles or are heavily streaming, it can also impact the TV. You should clear the cache to remedy this. If it doesn’t work, a soft reset or factory reset might be required.

Tips for troubleshooting TV freezing issues:
– Weak signal or connectivity issues can cause the TV to freeze
– A data overload in the cache can also cause the issue
– Clear the cache and app data as a first option
– A soft reset or factory reset may be required
– Regularly update the firmware to reduce future issues
– Reset the pin code if you forget it

Why Is My LG TV Freezing?

It can be aggravating if your television keeps freezing every second. There are several reasons why this might be happening.

Here are the top causes:

  1. Weak or Disrupted Signal

Pixilation is one of the common reasons why a TV might freeze. This happens when there is a disruption in the transmission or when the signal is poor

Make sure your connections are secure and all the cords are plugged in correctly. Also, check that the cables are in the proper outlet.

  1. Connectivity Issues

A shaky network or connectivity issue could also be the source of the crash.

If your internet connection is inconsistent, your TV could lag over and over again to update. Plus, losing internet service while streaming can also cause your TV to freeze.

You should double-check your Internet connection on a different device to make sure it’s up and running.

  1. Data Overload

Watching shows on streaming apps is fun, but it consumes a lot of resources. A data overload in your cache could be the culprit behind the freezing.

The data size varies depending on a range of things, including quality. For instance, Netflix estimates that the Ultra HD setting consumes roughly 7 GB of data per hour.

Clearing the cache is an easy fix, though. We’ll get to that in a minute.

How to Fix a Frozen LG TV

Fortunately, there are several options for resolving the freezing issue. Start with the least drastic solutions before you make your way up to a factory reset.

  1. Clear the App Data and Cache

You could try clearing the cache and app data before attempting to reset your TV.

It’ll help boost the speed performance and protect you from any viruses you may have encountered while browsing and downloading apps.

Here’s how to get rid of your browsing and app data:

  1. Launch the Web Browser
  2. Go to Menu, then select Settings
  3. Select the Clear Browsing Data option to erase your cache and cookies
  4. To verify, press OK
  5. To prevent gathering a lot of browsing data in the future, switch on the Private Browsing
  6. Next, head to the System Settings from the Home to clear app data
  7. Open the Application Manager
  8. Select one app at a time and click Clear Cache

Keeping your firmware regularly updated might reduce this problem in the future.

  1. Perform a Soft Reset

A soft reset is when you reboot your device to clear the internal memory of any running TV apps. It’ll turn off the TV without losing any data.

So, if your LG TV still freezes after clearing the cache, it could be a good idea to try a soft reset.

Here’s how:

  1. On the remote controller, hold down the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time
  2. Wait until the TV restarts (usually takes around 12 seconds)
  3. When you see the LG symbol, let go of the keys
  4. Perform a Factory Reset

Alternatively, you can just take the plug out of the wall outlet and wait for 60 seconds.

The more extreme variant of a soft reset is factory resetting.

A factory reset will erase all of the data and settings on the TV and return it to its default state. The reset helps clear out data storage and prevents apps from becoming unresponsive.

This is an option to consider if your LG TV freezes frequently.

Here’s how:

  1. Using your remote control, press the Home button, then select the Gear symbol
  2. Select General
  3. Choose Reset to Initial Settings
  4. Press Confirm for the pop-up message
  5. Enter your password on the screen (if you forget the pin code, you won’t be able to reset your LG TV till you reset it)
  6. Don’t unplug the TV till the procedure is finished

  2. Locate the Advanced Settings by scrolling through the Configuration Settings
  3. Scroll till you find the Safety page and select it
  4. You’ll see a Reset Password option (don’t press it, but just highlight it)
  5. On your remote, click channel up twice, then channel down, and channel up again
  6. Type 0325 or 0313 in the pop-up window
