Why Are My Powerbeats Pro Buzzing in One Ear?

As a frustrated owner of PowerBeats Pro headphones, I recently experienced an issue with one of them buzzing and wanted to find a solution. After doing some research and testing, I was able to get my headphones back in working order. Here, I want to share what I learned and what I discovered about possible solutions to this problem, so that others can benefit from my experience.

There are a few causes for buzzing with the Powerbeats Pro. This may include water damage and interference signals. The issue may also revolve around software.

Physical damageElectrical interferenceExcessive sweat
Check for any visible physical damage on the earbuds, wires, and charging case.Change locations to avoid electrical interference from devices like microwaves, routers, and cordless phones. If you suspect excessive sweat is the cause of the issue, remove the earbuds from their case and leave them out to dry.
Inspect the ear tips for wear and tear or blockage.Use a power conditioner or filter to regulate electrical interference from the power outlet. If the issue is persistent, try using antiperspirant or silicone ear tips to prevent sweat buildup.
Check the ear hooks for any cracks or deformities.Turn off any nearby electronics, one at a time, to see if they are causing the interference.Wipe the earbuds with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove any moisture or sweat.
Inspect the charging pins and contacts for dirt, debris, or damage.Move away from any sources of electromagnetic interference, such as large metal objects or electrical machinery.Use a UV-C sanitizer to disinfect the earbuds and case periodically.

Buzzing in One Powerbeats Pro Earbud

If you’re hearing a ringing in one of your Powerbeats Pro earbuds, you’ve come to the right place. There are a few reasons this could be happening.

Water Damage

Just like most electronic devices, the Powerbeats Pro isn’t great with water. These headphones do have some water resistance, but it’s not much.

When you purchase these earbuds, they come with an IPX4 rating. This is an indication of how much moisture they can handle.

The rating means the Powerbeats Pro can withstand splashing water from any direction. While this is standard for many devices, it can be an issue with the earbuds.

Most people use these headphones while on the go or working out. This usually involves a lot of sweat.

The odd splatter here and there shouldn’t do any damage. However, if you subject the earbuds to sustained moisture, they can short circuit.

This is because, over time, water can start to seep in between the seams of the device. Luckily, it won’t happen overnight. Still, that makes it a little harder to keep track of the issue.

Solution

While this problem can be severe, there are a couple of solutions for you to try.

The first one is the simplest: let the earbuds air dry. Instead of placing the listening pieces back into the charging case, set them down on a counter. You can even set a small fan next to them.

This constant flow of air can help your Powerbeats Pro dry out. However, this method can be time-consuming. It may take two to three days for the earbuds to get rid of all the excess moisture.

If you’re short on time, you can try using the rice bag method. This involves filling a ziplock bag with a few cups of rice and placing the earbuds inside. Make sure that the rice covers the headphones completely.

The rice can help speed up the drying process since it absorbs the extra water

External Interference

Wireless headphones have been around for quite some time. Still, many people aren’t exactly sure how they work.

Most wireless devices rely on radio waves to transfer a signal from one place to another.

The Powerbeats Pro buds are no different. They use Bluetooth to secure a connection, which is a group of 79 radio waves.

For the most part, this link can provide constant information change with no issues. However, since it travels through the air, it can face some interference.

As we mentioned, many devices emit radio waves. This means that any device in the vicinity can affect how your earbuds are performing.

Most of the time, this isn’t noticeable. You may hear a scratch on the audio now and then.

Yet, the interference can be powerful enough to scramble the signal and make a buzzing noise.

Solution

The only real solution to this issue is to stay away from random radio waves. Unfortunately, since we’re unable to see them, pinpointing the problem is difficult.

You have to be aware of all the devices around you. Any gadget with a running current can create interference.

This includes TVs, other phones, and even printers. It’s also important to note that Wi-Fi signals use similar radio waves to Bluetooth. So, your router may be the issue.

A good tip to avoid this issue is to keep your phone close to the Powerbeats Pro earbuds. The shorter the distance between the two devices, the less interference you’ll face.

Software Issues

One of the leading causes behind Powerbeats Pro buzzing is out-of-date software. As your device ages, it’ll keep receiving updates.

These additions may affect the syncing of the earbuds since a new software alters the connection between them and your phone.

This means you may have to reset your Powerbeats Pro.

Solution

Resetting your earbuds is a simple process. All you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Place both earbuds in the charging case.
  2. Click and hold the system button until the LED indicator blinks red.
  3. Wait until the indicator flashes white.
  4. Re-pair the Powerbeats Pro to your phone.

This should take care of almost any software issues your earbuds may be facing.
