Why Are My Powerbeats Pro Making a Buzzing Noise/High Pitch/Ringing?

As an owner of Powerbeats Pro headphones, I was recently frustrated by a buzzing noise, a high-pitched ringing, or other similar audio issues coming from my headphones. After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share how I solved the issue and some other solutions I discovered.

There are a few reasons Powerbeats Pro may be making a buzzing noise. These include physical damage, electrical interference, and faulty wiring. It could also be a software issue.

Causes of Buzzing Noise/High Pitch/Ringing in Powerbeats Pro

When you use your Powerbeats Pro, you should be on the receiving end of great audio quality. The device boasts crystal clear sound and hours of playback.

However, sometimes, there’s sound distortion. This can be in the form of ringing or high-pitched noises.

There are many reasons why your Powerbeats Pro audio may be acting up. Depending on what’s wrong with the earbuds, your course of action will change.

Physical Damage

When you purchase Powerbeats Pro, they come with their own case. Not only does this case help you with charging, but it’s also for protection.

Just like other electronic devices, the Powerbeats Pro are sensitive to outside forces. A small drop or scrap can affect the playback audio.

So, when your earbuds act up, the first thing you want to check for is physical damage. Go over all the surfaces and ensure that all parts are where they’re supposed to be.

Unfortunately, if you do find deformation in the earbuds. There’s very little you can do. Start by contacting customer service and see if they can offer a solution or replacement.

Electrical Interference

Without physical damage, the next likely culprit is electrical interference.

We all love using wireless headphones, but we’re not familiar with how they work. Usually, if there’s no attaching cable, the earbuds will rely on a Bluetooth connection.

Bluetooth uses about 79 different frequencies to transfer information between two devices. For the most part, this service will work well. However, it does open you up to external signals.

You have to remember that the world is full of waves moving all around us. These waves can interfere with the Bluetooth frequencies and affect audio. This can lead to a high-pitched ringing in the earbuds.

The fastest way to resolve this issue is to change locations. Some places have many more waves floating around than others.

So, using Powerbeats Pro in a couple of areas can help you determine if interference is the issue.

Faulty Wiring

Faulty wiring is a little less common, but it does happen. This can be due to a manufacturing issue or user error.

With a manufacturing problem, the earbuds will most likely buzz the first time you use them. If that’s the case, contact customer service for a replacement. 

However, sometimes the problem appears later on.

When you first receive your Powerbeats Pro, it says water and sweat resistant on the box. Many people confuse this for waterproof.

Resistant means the device can handle a small amount of moisture. This means excessive sweating can cause damage to the earbuds.

The extra water can travel into small crevices and cause the wires to cross. If this happens, you’ll hear a sharp screech when you play music.

To fix this issue, you can try leaving the earbuds outside the charging case to dry. After about a day or two, you can try using your Powerbeats Pro again.

Firmware Issues

Powerbeats Pro can also make a buzzing noise if the firmware is outdated, which tends to cause syncing issues and can ruin the audio.

The easiest way to get around this is to reset your earbuds. This process is quite simple. All you have to do is follow these steps:

  1. Connect the Powerbeats Pro case to the charger.
  2. Fold open the case lid and place it next to your phone.
  3. Use the phone to ensure the battery charge is at least over 70%.
  4. Disconnect the earbuds from your phone.
  5. Place both earbuds in the case.
  6. Leave the charging case lid open.
  7. Press and hold the system button until the LED indicator flashes red
  8. Wait until the LED indicator flashes white.
  9. Pair the Powerbeats Pro with your phone.

This should return your earbuds to their factory settings. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, contact customer service.
