As the proud owner of a pair of Powerbeats, I was dismayed to find that the microphone was muffled and distorted. After hours of frustration trying to figure out the cause and a few more trying to find a solution, I finally figured out what was causing the issue and was able to fix it. In this blog post, I’ll be sharing with you the cause of this issue and the steps I took to fix it. I’ll also be sharing other solutions I discovered along the way, so that you can quickly and easily get your Powerbeats working again.

The most common causes are that your Powerbeats Pro isn’t connecting properly and that your microphone is probably clogged with dust. Hence, resetting your device and keeping your Powerbeats clean regularly are the two easiest ways to fix these issues.

Why Are Your Powerbeats Mic Muffled?

When your Powerbeats mic is producing muffled sounds, this doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s broken. Sometimes it could be that it’s just having connectivity issues.

Additionally, this is especially true for Bluetooth-connected devices such as your Powerbeats Pro. If you’re in an environment where the signal is usually bad, then it must be what’s making your mic muffled.

Maintenance

Whether or not you regularly use your Powerbeats, it’s important that you maintain and routinely clean them. Dust and dirt would layer, and when this happens, then that means the sound has to go through this layer.

It’s natural that this would cause your audio to sound muffled and unclear.

Microphone Settings

One of Powerbeats Pro’s incredible features is that it has a microphone on both earbuds, and they can also be adjusted manually. You can use both microphones, or only the left or right. Because of this feature, another likely reason why your microphone is muffled could be due to the settings.

In a situation where the microphone is on Always Left while you’re using the right earbud. That’s because your voice is far from the left earbud microphone. Thus, your voice would sound muffled, or as if you’re in another room.

Solutions if Your Powerbeats Mic Is Muffled

Here, we’ve given you a few options if you’re looking for ways to resolve this problem.

Go Where There’s Signal

To resolve connectivity issues, you should find a place where there’s a strong signal. Although this may seem straightforward, this should be effective. However, if this doesn’t work, you may already need to reset your device.

Reset Your Powerbeats

It’s always been the first step to take whenever any device is having problems. To reset your Powerbeats, you can do any or all of these methods.

Unpair and Pair

To disconnect and pair your devices again, here are a few simple steps:

First, go to the Settings app, then tap on ‘Bluetooth.’
Next, look for your Powerbeats Pro in the list of devices connected to your phone.

Tap the information icon next to it and select the ‘Forget This Device’ option.
After a few seconds or minutes, turn it on and repeat the pairing process.
Finally, connect it to your Powerbeats Pro and check if your microphone is no longer muffled.

Reset Your Powerbeats Pro

You can also try resetting your Powerbeats Pro by following these steps:

First, disconnect your Powerbeats Pro from the device it’s paired to.
Then, place the earbuds back into the case and open the lid.

Find the system button, then press and hold it for a few seconds or until the LED light flashes red and white, then release it.
Wait for a few seconds or minutes before connecting it again and checking if your microphone isn’t muffled anymore.

Note: You can also reboot the device your wireless earbuds are paired to.

Clean Your Powerbeats

Here’s how to clean your Powerbeats Pro:

First, make sure that it’s off and not charging.
Next, use a cotton swab that’s dampened slightly by warm water. If necessary, you can damp it with 70% isopropyl alcohol instead.

When cleaning other areas, you may use a lint-free cloth, also slightly dampened with either warm water or 70% isopropyl alcohol.
When it comes to cleaning the case, you should use only soft, dry, and lint-free cloth.

Adjust Microphone Settings

Here’s how to manually adjust your Powerbeats microphone settings:

First, go to the Settings app, then tap on ‘Bluetooth.’
Look for the name of your Powerbeats Pro.
Next, tap the information icon that’s next to it.

Tap ‘Microphone’ and then choose the option that you want.
