Why is my AirPods case loose?

As an owner of Apple AirPods, I’ve become increasingly frustrated with how loose the case is. After trying a few things, such as checking the lid’s seal and making sure the case was securely closed, I was still having the same issue.

After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share how I solved this problem, as well as other solutions I discovered. In this blog post, I’ll explain why my AirPods case was loose and how I was able to fix it.

It is normal for the AirPods case to have some wiggle when the lid is open. It is not normal for the case to open easily when it is closed or for the lid to open more than 130 degrees or so.

Quick Tips for AirPods Case Wiggle
– It is normal for the AirPods case to have some wiggle when the lid is open.
– Broken magnets or a broken hinge in the AirPods case can cause it to be loose.
– If the case is still able to open and close properly and charge your AirPods correctly, it is probably ok to do nothing about it.
– If your AirPods case does not close properly, it might be best to get it replaced.

Why is my AirPods case loose?

Below are likely reasons why your AirPods case is loose.

Normal

If the lid of your AirPods case wiggles a bit when it is open, this is normal. If the case is still able to open and close properly, it will likely be ok for you to do nothing about it.

Broken magnets

It might also be the case that the magnets are broken or have worn down. This would be more likely if you have been using the case for longer than a year and if the case does not close tightly.

Again, if your AirPods are still charging correctly, you should be ok to leave it as it is. If it gets bad enough, that you cannot charge the AirPods, your only option would be to replace the case itself.

Broken hinge

Another possible reason is that the hinge is broken. This would be more likely if there is a lot of wiggle or if the lid opens further than it is supposed to. In this case, it would help to try to replace the case if it is still in warranty.

Can I tighten the AirPods case hinge?

It is not easy to tighten the hinge of the AirPods case because of the way it is designed.

As mentioned above, if there is some wiggle when you have the lid open, this is normal and should not affect the ability of the case to stay closed and to charge the AirPods.

If the case is very loose or it opens when you have it closed without you opening it, then it would help to take it to an Apple store if it is still in warranty.

What do I do if my AirPod case is loose?

If your AirPods case is still able to charge the AirPods correctly and it is able to stay closed, it would likely be best for you to do nothing about it and to just be as gentle as possible with the case.

If the case is really loose and it is causing you problems with charging the AirPods, the only solution is to take it to an Apple Store or a certified store to be fixed.

Are AirPods cases supposed to wiggle?

It is normal for the AirPods case to wiggle a bit while it is opened. If your AirPods case moves from side to side while you have it open, this is likely to be normal and you can leave it how it is.

If the lid wiggles a lot or the lid easily opens without your input, then it would probably be due to a fault with the case.

Why does my AirPod case not close properly?

If your AirPods case does not close properly, it could be because the hinge is broken or because the magnets are worn down.

If it is stopping you from being able to charge the AirPods, it would likely be best to see if you can get the case replaced.
