Why is one of my AirPods not charging?

As an owner of Apple AirPods, I recently encountered a frustrating issue: one of my AirPods was not charging. After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share how I solved this issue and some other solutions I discovered.

Likely reasons why one AirPod is not charging are that the case has debris in it, the AirPod is broken or that part of the case is broken.

Key takeaways and tips
– One AirPod not charging is likely due to debris in
the case, the AirPod being broken, or part of the
case being broken.
– Cleaning the case and the bottom of the AirPod is
the first step to try and fix this issue.
– If that does not work, taking it to an Apple store
might be the only option.
– One AirPod charging slowly could be due to debris in
that part of the case or the AirPod being damaged.

Why is one of my AirPods not charging?

Below are likely reasons why one of your AirPods is not charging.

Debris

It might simply be the case that there is debris in the charging case. It would help to clean the charging case and to try to wipe the inside of the case by using a cotton swab. You could also try blowing into it. Also, try cleaning the bottom of the AirPods.

It is actually not connected to your device

It could also be the case that your AirPod does actually have charge in it, but it is not connecting to your device. Put your AirPods in the case and open the lid next to an iphone or ipad. A popup should appear that shows how much charge is in the AirPods. If they do both have charge, it would be more likely that the AirPod has a bad connection with your device.

It would also help to try reconnecting your AirPods with the device.

Try the following:

  1. Forget the AirPods on the device you are using
  2. Put your AirPods in the case
  3. Wait 30 seconds
  4. Open the lid and hold the button on the case, for 15 seconds, until the light flashes amber then white
  5. Reconnect your AirPods to your device

Broken case

It could also be the case that the charging case itself is broken. If you have a friend who also owns AirPods, you could try charging your AirPods in the case.

If both of the AirPods charge, it would mean that it is the case that is causing the problems. If it does not charge, it would mean that the AirPod itself is broken.

Broken AirPod

It could also be the case that the AirPod itself is broken. This would be more likely if there is clearly no debris inside the case and if you can’t get the AirPod to charge when using someone else’s case.

It would help to consider if the AirPod recently got wet or if you dropped it.

In this case, your only option would be to take it to an Apple store or to buy a replacement.

How to fix one AirPod not charging

Below are the options you have when getting the AirPod to work.

Clean the case of debris

As mentioned above, it might be the case that the case has debris in it. The first thing to try would be to clean the inside of the case using a cotton swab.

Clean the bottom of the AirPod

It would also help to clean the bottom of the AirPod by using a microfiber cloth if you have one or just a regular cloth.

Take it to an Apple store

If neither of the above work, the only option would be to take your AirPods and the case to an Apple store to see if they can fix it. Alternatively, you would have to buy a replacement.
