Why won’t my AirPods flash white?

As an AirPods owner, I was incredibly frustrated to find that my AirPods weren’t flashing white like they’re supposed to. After much research and experimentation, I’m here to share what I’ve learned about this issue and some solutions to try. In this blog post, I’ll explain why your AirPods won’t flash white and what you can do to get them working again.

Likely reasons why your AirPods case will not flash white are that there is no power in the case, you are not pressing down on the button correctly, the button is jammed, the case is broken or you need to reset the AirPods.

Why won’t my AirPods case flash white?

Below are likely reasons why your AirPods case will not flash white.

No power in the case

The first possible reason is that there is actually not any power in the case. To see if there is power in the case, open the lid. An orange or green light should appear. The green light means it is fully charged and an orange light means that less than one full charge of the AirPods is in the case. If you do not see any light, it means that the case does not have any power.

Dust in the charging port

If the case does not have any power, it could be due to dust or something inside the charging port that is causing the case not to get charged properly.

Broken cable or mat

Another possible reason is that the cable or charging mat you have been using is broken. It would also help to try charging the case using a different cable or charging mat. It would also help to try plugging the charging cable into something different in case the also plug is not working properly.

Broken battery inside the case

It could be the case that the battery for the case is broken. This would be more likely if you can get the case to flash white when the case itself is being charged.

Not pressing down on the button correctly

If there is charge in the case and a light does appear when you open the lid of the case, it could be the case that you are not pressing the button down correctly. You are supposed to put the AirPods inside the case, open the lid and then press and hold the button until it flashes white. When you press down on the button, you should feel it move. If you do not feel it move, it means that it is not getting pressed down.

Jammed button

If the button is not moving, it might be because it is jammed. To fix this, try to clean around the edge of the button or to press down on the button slightly harder.

You need to reset the AirPods

If you still can’t get the white light to appear, it would help to see if you can get the case to reset the AirPods. To do this, do the following:

Put the AirPods in the case
Open the lid
Hold the button for 15 seconds until the light flashes orange then white
Reconnect your AirPods to your devices

If that did not work, try doing it again, but this time plug the case in via a lightning cable.

If the case still will not show a white light, it might be because the case is broken. It would help to try taking it to an Apple store to see if they can fix it or replace it.
