What does the button do on the AirPods case?
The button on the AirPods case is there to connect the AirPods to devices.
If you put the AirPods in the case and open the lid then press the button, it will put the AirPods into pairing mode and they will be able to connect to devices.
The button is also there to reset your AirPods. By putting the AirPods in the case and opening the lid then pressing the button for 15 seconds, an orange light should appear.
When this happens, it means that the AirPods have been reset causing them to be disconnected from all devices as well as iCloud.
This does mean that if someone steals your AirPods, they can put the AirPods in a case and reset your AirPods and you will not be able to do anything about it.

What does the button do on the back of the AirPods pro case?
The button on the AirPods Pro case is there to allow you to connect your AirPod Pros to new devices and to reset the AirPod Pros.
The way to pair and reset your AirPod Pros in the case is exactly the same as with regular AirPods.
Do AirPods have buttons on them?
AirPods themselves do not feature buttons. Instead, you can tap on the stem of the AirPods to interact with them.
AirPod Pros also do not have any buttons. Instead, you can squeeze on the stem to interact with them. One squeeze pauses music, two skips to the next song and 3 repeats the song.
To turn on noise canceling or transparent mode, you squeeze the stem for a few seconds until you hear a sound.
