How durable are AirPods?

As an owner of AirPods, I can tell you that they are incredibly durable and long-lasting. After having owned them for a few years now, I’ve been amazed at how well they’ve held up. Over the course of my ownership, I’ve dropped them, stepped on them, and even submerged them in water on multiple occasions – yet they still work perfectly.

I decided to do some research to find out more about the durability of AirPods and wanted to share my findings. In this blog post, I’ll be discussing the durability of AirPods and how to care for them so that they last for years to come.

Most people do not have issues with their AirPods breaking with regular use. It is important to limit dropping AirPods and allowing them to get wet. The most important thing for most people is actually to take care with the battery especially by trying not to allow it to be at 0% charge for too long or to be in harsh conditions.

How durable are AirPods?

For the most part, AirPods are very durable. If you drop them or they fall out of your ears, it is not common for them to break.

Your AirPods are some of the most durable accessories Apple has ever created.

While Apple doesn’t list an official status for how high you can drop them from, drop tests online have repeatedly dropped individual AirPods from Heights of 10 feet or more onto concrete without them being damaged at all.

With that being said, it is possible that they will break so you should still take care with them.

Also, no versions of AirPods are waterproof. With that being the case, it will be important for you to avoid allowing them to get wet.

AirPods Pro and AirPods gen 3 are water resistant, so they can get a little bit wet but they are not water proof. So, it will still be possible for them to get damaged from getting wet.

Also, if you allow your AirPods to come into contact with keys a lot, such as in your pockets, it is possible that they will get scratched.

Overall, most people do not have issues with their AirPods breaking or becoming damaged from regular use.

If you are careful with your AirPods and avoid allowing them to get wet, it is likely that you will not have issues with durability.

How durable are AirPods pro?

The AirPods Pro are also durable for most people. I have personally been using the AirPod Pros for a year now and I have had no issues with their durability.

I have personally dropped a number of times onto concrete and they are still functioning fine.

However, the AirPod Pros are only water-resistant so it is important to avoid allowing them to get very wet.

As long as you take care with your AirPod Pros, it is not likely that you will have issues with their durability.

What is the longevity of AirPods?

The lifespan of AirPods is mostly dictated by their batteries and how much you use them. With regular use, lithium-ion batteries should last for 2-5 years.

Many AirPod owners have found that these devices last approximately two years.

However, the latest models were introduced too recently for anyone to definitively know how long they’ll last. Like many mobile devices, AirPods contain lithium-ion batteries.

Their lifespan varies considerably depending on how you use them, but most of these batteries last two to five years.

Do AirPods break easily?

AirPods do not usually break easily. The most common ways for people to break their AirPods are getting them wet or dropping them onto something such as concrete.

If you are careful to avoid dropping them and you avoid allowing them to get wet, they will likely last you for a long time.

How to avoid damaging AirPods

To avoid damaging your AirPods, it is important to avoid dropping them or to avoid allowing them to get wet.

The main issue when it comes to the longevity of AirPods is actually the battery. Lithium-ion batteries should last for 2-5 years. However, there are some things you can do to limit the degradation of the batteries.

It is important to avoid allowing the AirPods to fall to a 0% charge for too long. Lithium ion batteries do need some charge to actually allow themselves to be charged.

If your AirPods are at 0% for too long, it might result in the battery becoming permanently broken.

To make this easier, Apple added a feature called Optimized Battery Charging to its 3rd generation AirPods. The Pro edition is also equipped with this feature.

If your earbuds have this capability, make sure it’s turned on (under “More Info” in Bluetooth device settings). It prevents excessive charging and keeps the charge level below 81 percent at most times.

Remember that using less power means your batteries will undergo fewer charging cycles. This should extend their lifespan.

You can conserve energy by reducing the volume or turning off active noise cancellation (Pro model only). Consider using wired earbuds or headphones in places where you don’t really need to listen wirelessly.

Another way to extend your AirPods’ lifespan is to protect them from harsh conditions. Don’t let the earbuds or their case become wet.

Apple recommends using this product at temperatures ranging from 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and storing it at 14 to 113 degrees.

Avoid keeping AirPods in vehicles or unheated buildings, and don’t place them on surfaces exposed to direct sunlight.

Like any small wireless device, an AirPod is easy to lose or break. Watch out for crevices in furniture and holes in pockets.

Store the earbuds in their case whenever you’re not using them. If you lose the case, you can get a replacement from Apple, Target or Best Buy.

Apple also replaces individual AirPods, so you don’t have to buy two if you lose one.

You can increase this device’s longevity by cleaning it carefully. A soft piece of cloth is useful for this task. You’ll also need something long and narrow like a toothpick or cotton swab.

It’s important not to stab the earbud speaker when removing earwax and other grime. You can clean the exterior with a damp cloth, but don’t allow any water to get inside of your AirPods.

The AirPods Pro has silicone tips over its speakers. To clean these earbuds thoroughly, you’ll have to temporarily remove the tips.

Only use water to wash them, and ensure that you completely dry the tips before returning them to their original positions. You can purchase new silicone tips if necessary.
