iPhone Screen Coming Off (Causes and How to Fix)

As an iPhone owner, I know the frustration of having an iPhone screen that is coming off. I recently had this problem and it was a big headache for me. After doing some research and testing out some potential solutions, I am here to share how I was able to fix my iPhone screen and what other potential solutions I discovered along the way. In this blog post, I will explain the causes of an iPhone screen coming off and how to fix it.

A swollen battery or a bent frame could cause the iPhone screen to come off. Plus, a cheap or faulty screen replacement might also pop up easily with minor wear and tear.

In this article, we’ll discuss all the possible culprits behind the lifting screen with solutions for each one, so let’s dive in!

Reasons for iPhone Screen Coming OffSolutions
Swollen Battery– Stop using the phone immediately.
– Replace iPhone battery, either at Apple store or repair shop.
– Change the battery yourself, with proper caution.
Dropped iPhone– Take iPhone to repair shop for frame replacement or straightening.
– Apple might not fix a bent frame or replace the phone if it is within the one-year warranty.
Cheap Screen Replacement– Demand a refund.
– Find a reputable technician for a replacement.
DIY Replacement– Use Apple’s Self Service Repair option or third-party replacement kit, depending on convenience and cost.

Why Is My iPhone Screen Coming Off? And How Can I Fix it?

Your iPhone screen may come off for a variety of reasons, but most of them are fixable.

Here are three common reasons and what you can do about them:

  1. The Battery Is Swelling

In most cases, iPhone screen lifting is caused by a swollen battery, but that might sound too technical, so let’s elaborate on that.

When lithium-ion batteries chemically age, they tend to swell up a bit. This is because the reactions that generate power are no longer entirely functional, resulting in accumulated gasses that cause the case to swell.

As a result, the battery pushes against the screen because it’s the part that has the most flex. This will most definitely cause the screen to lift and separate from the phone.

Solution

If your screen is coming off due to a swollen battery, you should stop using the phone immediately since it’s potentially hazardous.

The only solution is to replace your iPhone battery right away. If you’re still covered by Apple’s one-year warranty, they’ll take care of it. If you aren’t, you can just take your iPhone to any Apple store or repair shop to get the battery replaced.

Another cost-effective way is to change the battery yourself. It’s important to note that this process can be highly dangerous since the swollen battery could catch fire, explode, or emit toxic fumes.

However, if you’re experienced enough and know all the precautions, it’s doable.

  1. You Dropped Your iPhone

It’s safe to say everybody has dropped their phone at least once in their lives. So naturally, the first thing you do after the phone falls (besides having a mini heart attack!) is to check for any damages done.

Sometimes, the screen frame can get bent with the drop. This often goes unnoticed until you find your screen lifting off the phone.

Solution

If you’re within the one-year Apple warranty, you should know that, unfortunately, Apple might not fix a bent iPhone frame, nor will they replace your phone.

The only solution is to take your iPhone to a repair shop and have them install a new frame or perform a frame straightening.

  1. You Got a Cheap Screen Replacement

Another reason your iPhone screen is coming off is if it’s cheaply made. Let’s say you already damaged your iPhone’s original screen and replaced it with a new one.

Sometimes repair shops will use cheap screens and use hot glue to adhere them to the phone when, in fact, they should be using cold press glue that sets over a few days.

Solution

Since this personally happened to yours truly, there isn’t much you can do other than demanding a refund and finding a better repair shop for a replacement.

Before taking your phone to any repair shop, it’s important to do your research. For example, try Googling the best repair shops around or asking your friends for recommendations on reputable technicians.

Can I Replace My iPhone Screen Myself?

As long as the problem isn’t caused by a swollen battery, fixing your iPhone screen yourself is not out of the question.

It might also save you a ton of money, especially if you’re no longer covered by Apple’s warranty. To make matters easier, Apple offers a ’Self Service Repair’ option for people who want to do their out-of-warranty repairs at home!

They provide repair manuals, original Apple parts, tools, and everything else you might need depending on the type of repair you require.

However, the downside to this is that it may be a little pricey. Many users complained that it’s just more convenient to get it done at an Apple store. So, it’s better to compare the fees (and required effort!) before you jump in and order the replacement kit.
