What Causes LG TV Blue Patches?

These are some of the most common causes of the LG TV bluish patches or tint. Here, you can explore several reasons and their solutions.

1. A Defective Backlight

If the blue blotches occurred shortly after buying the TV, it might be because of a defective backlight array. That’s a common problem with LG LED TVs. LG gets the LED strips from another manufacturer. So, if the strips aren’t high quality, they’ll be easily damaged.

It’s worth noting that this backlight failure is only common in LG LCD and LED TVs. This is because they’re backlit. On the other hand, we can’t see the same defect in the LG OLED TV generation because it’s got self-lit sub-pixels.

What Should You Do to Fix the Backlight?

Since your TV is still new, you should contact the manufacturer to request a warranty repair to replace the TV or its backlight array.

If your warranty has expired, check out repair shops in your area as they might be familiar with the problem and would be able to get you a replacement for the backlighting strip. This mending might cost you $120, give or take.

2. Damaged Cables

If there’s something wrong with the cable plugs or the cables are damaged, the whole TV screen could be tinted blue.

What Should You Do to Ensure the Cables Are Working Just Fine?

Check the Cables to make sure they’re tightly connected. Examine the wires, too, as worn out and exposed wires may result in a blue tint on your TV. If so, you’ll have to replace the cables or fix the wiring.

3. TV Color Settings

Improper color settings could also make your LG TV picture look unnaturally blue.

How Can You Set the Picture Mode?

All you’ve got to do is follow these steps to adjust the Picture Mode Settings on your LG television:

  1. Go to All Settings.
  2. Highlight Picture.
  3. Select Picture Mode Settings.
  4. Choose Picture Mode.
  5. Select Cinema or Cinema Home.

The bluish tint should be gone now.

4. The Blue Light Filter Is Off

If you enable the blue light filter (also known as eye comfort mode) on your LG TV, it reduces the blue-tinted light, which can strain your eyes. Moreover, watching TV for long hours while the screen is tinted blue may deteriorate your eyesight and cause sleeping disorders.

How Will You Apply the Blue Light Filter on Your LG Smart TV?

Just follow the steps below:

  1. Push the Setting button on your remote control.
  2. Go to All Settings.
  3. Click on Picture.
  4. Highlight Additional Settings.
  5. Select Eye Comfort Mode.

The eye comfort mode will automatically adjust the color temperature.

However, there’s another way you can employ to adjust the temperature on your LG TV. To do so, you’ll follow these steps:

  1. Go to All Settings.
  2. Open Picture.
  3. Select Picture Mode Settings.
  4. Click on Color Temperature.
  5. Drag the slider to the left until you reach the preferred warmth degree.

The bluish tint should disappear afterward.

5. The Connected Device

Miraculously, there may not be anything wrong with your TV. Instead, your device connected to your box, like a TV receiver, might be the underlying cause of the discoloration problem.

How Can You Verify the Connected Device Is Causing This Blue Discoloration?

In that case, you can switch the device’s color temperature to warmer values. If you’re still unsure, connect your TV to another display device. This way, you can confirm whether or not the device is causing the bluish tint.

6. Stuck Pixels

If you’ve discovered one or more blue dots on your TV screen, those may be stuck pixels. A stuck pixel receives incomplete information due to a lack of liquid within its sub-pixels. So, it shows as a red, green, or blue spot.

Luckily, a stuck pixel sometimes disappears on its own. But if it doesn’t, you still can do something about it.

How Can You Fix a Stuck Pixel on Your LG LED TV?

Let’s go through this technique step by step:

  1. Turn off your TV.
  2. Bring a damp piece of cloth or a smooth eraser, which protects your screen from getting scratched.
  3. Apply pressure to the spot of the stuck pixel.
  4. While pressing this area, turn on your television.
  5. Stop pressing. The stuck pixel should vanish.

Yet, you must be cautious because applying too much pressure will add insult to injury.

  1. Perform a Soft Reset

A soft reset is when you reboot your device to clear the internal memory of any running TV apps. It’ll turn off the TV without losing any data.

Here’s how:

  1. On the remote controller, hold down the Volume Down and Power keys at the same time
  2. Wait until the TV restarts (usually takes around 12 seconds)
  3. When you see the LG symbol, let go of the keys

Alternatively, you can just take the plug out of the wall outlet and wait for 60 seconds.
