Can I play Chromecast audio from my phone?

As an owner of a Chromecast Audio device, I have been frustrated with the lack of options to play audio from my phone. After much research and testing, I am here to share what I have discovered, and hopefully provide some helpful solutions to anyone else facing the same issue.

It is not possible to play Chromecast audio from your phone while you stream just the video to the Chromecast. However, you can get it to work with downloaded videos using the LocalCast app. You can also connect earphones to your TV or Chromecast (if you have a newer version) as a workaround.

Tips:
– It is not usually possible to listen to just the audio on your phone while you are watching the video on the device that the Chromecast is plugged into.
– You can use third-party apps like LocalCast to play Chromecast audio from downloaded videos.
– You can plug a Bluetooth transmitter into your TV and then connect some Bluetooth earphones to the transmitter as a workaround.
– If your TV has Bluetooth, you can connect earphones to the TV.
– If you have Chromecast with Google TV, it features Bluetooth so you could also connect the earphones to that.
– It is not possible to cast only the video and no audio to your Chromecast.

Can I play Chromecast audio from my phone?

The way Chromecast works is your phone sends the audio and video as an integrated signal to your Chromecast and then that is used as an input into the display that the Chromecast is plugged into.

As a result of this, it is not usually possible to listen to just the audio on your phone while you are watching the video on the device that the Chromecast is plugged into.

However, there are a couple of workarounds which can allow you to achieve what you are looking for.

The first option is to use third party apps such as LocalCast which you can download on Android as well as iOS.

However, this will only allow you to do it with videos that you have downloaded. This will not work with videos that you are trying to stream from Youtube or Netflix.

The other option is to plug a bluetooth transmitter into your TV and then to connect some bluetooth earphones to the transmitter.

This will allow you to listen to the audio coming from the TV without having the sound come through the speakers.

If you have a TV that features Bluetooth, you can also connect some earphones to the TV. Additionally, if you have Chromecast with Google Tv, it features bluetooth so you could also connect the earphones to that.

However, what you can do is to plug a audio aux extension into the 3.5mm out on the TV and then to plug in the headphones into the other end of the extension.
