Why don’t AirPods fit in my ears?

As an owner of AirPods, I know the frustration of trying to get them to fit properly in my ears. After countless attempts to adjust them, I was left wondering why they wouldn’t stay in place. After doing some research and testing, I’m here to share what I’ve learned and provide potential solutions. In this blog post, I’ll be exploring the question: Why don’t AirPods fit in my ears?

Tips
AirPods are designed to slot into your ears
The shape of your ears may not be well suited to regular AirPods
AirPods Pro may not fit well due to the wrong size ear tip
Regular AirPods can be worn differently with an ear hook or silicon covers
Third-gen AirPods have a more compact silicone tip for small ears
A tight seal is not necessary for AirPods to stay in place
Falling out may be due to wrong size ear tip, dirt, or head movement

Why don’t AirPods fit in my ears?

It could be the case that you are not wearing the AirPods correctly. AirPods are not meant to go all the way into your ear canal like earphones with ear tips do.

Instead, AirPods are designed to slot into your ears and to hang onto your ears.

However, it is possible that the shape of your particular ears are not well suited to regular AirPods.

This would be more likely if your AirPods do not hang onto your ears well or they fall out a lot. In this case, there are some things you can do as mentioned below.

Why don’t AirPods Pro fit in my ears?

If your AirPods Pro do not fit your ears well, the most likely reason is that you are using an ear tip that is the wrong size.

The first thing to do would be to try a smaller or larger ear tip. If that does not work, you could also try a different type of ear tip.

The ear tips that come with AirPod Pros are silicone ear tips. However, you can also get memory foam ear tips from third parties.

Below are options you have when getting AirPods to fit properly.

Regular AirPods

Wear them differently

Instead of wearing the AirPods so that the stem is pointing straight down, try wearing them so that the stem is angled more towards your mouth. A number of people have found that doing this results in them fitting much better.

You Can Get An Ear Hook

You can get an ear hook designed to fit the regular AirPods that fits onto your AirPods and goes around your ears.

These ear hooks will not only help you to keep your AirPods in place, but they will also make sure that the fit of your AirPods is comfortable. Various brands sell these ear hooks, and they all come in different colors.

Get silicon covers

There are silicon covers that you can get for the regular AirPods that will increase the amount of friction that they have with your ears. This will help to prevent your AirPods from sliding out.

Clean them

It would also help to try cleaning your AirPods since they might have been coming loose due to a lack of friction.

AirPods pro

Get a bigger ear tip

If you find that your AirPod pros are falling out, the most likely cause is that the ear tip you are using is not big enough. In this case, the first thing to try would be to get a bigger ear tip.

Try a different type of ear tip

Another option would be to try a different type of ear tip. If you are currently using silicon ear tips, you could try using memory foam tips instead.

The advantage that memory foam tips have is that they expand when you place them in your ear. This can help to give a more secure fit.

Ear hooks

It is also possible to get ear hooks that you can use with the AirPod pros which will give you a more secure fit.

Do AirPods fit in small ears?

Third-gen Airpods feature a flexible silicone tip that is more compact than Apple’s original silicon tips. This flexible tip can stretch around the inner ear canal without being too snug or uncomfortable. The feature makes it possible to use AirPods in smaller ears without buying new tips.

The main body of the earbud is wider at the front, where it houses the speakers and tapers down toward the base. They become smaller toward the end that enters your ear canal.

It’s important to note that they don’t come with silicone ear tips as other true wireless earbuds do.

The AirPods design relies on your ear’s natural anatomy to hold them in place, so a tight seal isn’t necessary for them to stay in your ears without falling out.

Why do my AirPods keep falling out?

The most likely cause of why your AirPods keep falling out of your ears is that the tip of the AirPod is not able to hook onto your particular ear correctly.

To fix this, you can try getting some silicon covers, for your AirPods, that will increase the amount of friction and prevent them from falling out.

Another option would be to get some hooks that you can put on the AirPods which will latch onto your ear and prevent the AirPods from falling out that way.

Also, you could switch to the AirPods pro which do not fall out so easily.

Other possible reasons are that you have not been putting the AirPods into your ears correctly, the AirPods are dirty or your AirPods have been falling out due to sweat.

It might also be the case that you have been moving about in a way that causes your AirPods to fall out.

Since the AirPods only latch onto the ear, if you move your head around enough or you move your head up and down, it can cause the AirPods to come loose and fall out.

To prevent this, you can try hooks that connect to the AirPods, silicon covers or to switch to AirPod pros.
