Why is my AirPods case button not working?

Below are likely reasons why the button on your AirPods case has not been working correctly.

Jammed

It could be the case that the button on your AirPods case is jammed. The button on the case, should press into the case a bit when you press on it.

If the button does not move at all, it would be likely that the button is actually jammed. In this case, it would help to try to remove any debris around the edges of the button.

Out of power

If your case is out of power, pressing the button will not do anything. When you open the case, near an iPhone or iPad, it should show the battery percentage of the case.

When you open the case, it should also light up orange or green. If no light appears, it means that the case is out of power or it is broken and you should try charging it.

It is actually working

It could be the case that the button is actually working but you are doing something else wrong.

You are meant to put the AirPods in the case, open the lid, then hold down the button. If you have the lid closed, it will not connect to your device correctly.

Also, you should be searching for the AirPods Bluetooth on your device when you hold down on the button. If you don’t search of the AirPods on your device, it won’t find them.

Fake case

It is also possible that you have a fake AirPods case. This would be more likely if you bought the case from a third-party seller from somewhere such as Amazon or Ebay.

Broken case

It is also possible that the case is broken. This would be more likely if you are unable to get a light to show at all on the case.

In this case, the only option would be to take it to an Apple store and to see what they can do about it.

Your AirPods are not in the case

Your AirPods are meant to be in the case when you press on the button. If your AirPods are not in the case, they will not connect to the Bluetooth on your device when being paired for the first time.

The lid is not open

It is also the case that the lid is meant to be open. You should have your AirPods in the case with the lid open when you press on the button.

Your Bluetooth is not scanning for devices

If your device is not scanning for Bluetooth devices, it will not be able to find your AirPods.

You need to reset your AirPods

It might be the case that you need to reset your AirPods. To do this, put your AirPods in the case, open the lid and press the button for 15 seconds until an orange light appears.

Broken case

It is also possible that the case itself is broken. This would be more likely if you have done all of the above, the case is definitely charged, and if you have tried to connect your AirPods to multiple devices.

However, it would help to try resetting your AirPods in the case and then to try again. To do this, put your AirPods in the case and hold down the button for 15 seconds until an orange light appears on the case.
