In this blog post, I’m going to explain how to stop AirPods from playing music.

If your AirPods don’t stop playing music when you tap on them, the cause could be that you need to reconnect them to that device, they are broken or they are dirty. It would help to try resetting them and then to reconnect them to the device.

  5. Open the lid and hold the button on the case
  6. Reconnect your AirPods to your Mac

Problem with website or app

It could also be the case that the issue is with the website or app you are using. This would be more likely if your AirPods only randomly play music when using a specific website or app.

In this case, it would help to take a look at the volume settings on that website or app.

Broken AirPods

It could also be the case that your AirPods are broken. This would be more likely if it is happening regardless of the device you are using.

Software update

AirPods do receive software updates. It might be the case that your AirPods need to be updated.

To update your AirPods, you need to put them in the charging case while it is being charged, then put a connected Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac) near the AirPods.

Faulty volume button on your device

It might also be the case that the volume button is faulty on the device you are using. This would be more likely if the volume randomly changes even when the AirPods are not connected to it.

How to stop airpods from playing music

To start with the obvious, it should be possible for you to stop your AirPods from playing music be tapping on the stem or squeezing on the stem of AirPod Pros.

If that does not work, try resetting and reconnecting your AirPods to your device, updating your AirPods, cleaning your AirPods and see if other earphones are able to stop music from playing when they are connected to that device.
